By Richard Sproat (auth.), Elisabete Ranchhod, Nuno J. Mamede (eds.)

This booklet constitutes the refereed complaints of the 3rd overseas convention PorTAL 2002 - Portugal for normal Language Processing, held in Faro, Portugal, in June 2002.
The 23 reviewed commonplace papers and eleven brief papers provided have been rigorously reviewed and chosen from forty eight submissions. The papers are equipped in topical sections on pragmatics, discourse, semantics, and the lexicon; studying and producing spoken and written language; language-oriented details retrieval, query answering, summarization, and knowledge extraction; language-oriented computer studying; multi-lingual processing, laptop translation, and translation aids; typical language interfaces and discussion platforms; instruments and assets; and overview of structures.

Security and Cryptography for Networks: 5th International Conference, SCN 2006, Maiori, Italy, September 6-8, 2006. Proceedings

The convention on safeguard and Cryptography for Networks 2006 (SCN 2006) used to be held in Maiori, Italy, on September 6-8, 2006. The convention was once the ? fth within the SCN sequence, and this yr marked a transformation in its identify (the former identify used to be defense in verbal exchange Networks). The identify swap intended to raised describe the scope of the convention whereas conserving the SCN acronym.

Semantic similarity between words is based on the relations used in WordNet-like databases [4, 9], specifically: synonymy, hyperonymy / hyponymy (genus—species relations), meronymy / holonymy (part—whole relations), and one type of semantic derivation. Additionally, one type of semantically induced morphological categories is considered for the inference, namely, grammatical number of nouns. We also describe some counter-heuristics for filtering out wrong or dubious results of the inference. The rules and considerations proposed below are valid for all European languages, though we consider primarily Spanish examples since our motivation was the development of a corresponding Spanish-oriented CDB.

Bolshakov and Alexander Gelbukh with a semantically “similar” one. We have discussed what we mean by similarity and what exceptions there are. The types of similarity considered are synonymy, hyperonymy / holonymy, holonymy / meronymy, one kind of semantic derivation, and one semantically induced morphological category: number of nouns. To exclude the most frequent errors, some counter-heuristics have been proposed in the form of prohibitive lists or categories of content words, lexeme-specific syntactic relations used in collocations, and the labeled dictionary items.
