The main aspects in realizing the robot controller were to implement a menu oriented programming environment as an easy-to-use tool for program definition, to integrate an interface for execution of robot programs defined by external programming systems and to provide the possibility to link the controller to higher level automation units. The IRDATA mode provides a powerful interface to external programming systems. A serious problem in the industrial application of robot systems depends on the fact, that robot programs and taught positions are generally not interchangeable between different robot controllers, because each of these uses its own programming system with a special programming language.
